Storing Fresh Herbs

Herbs are such an essential part of my life.

Perfectly varied and versatile, they add the all-important flourishes and flare.

Some of my happiest and most creative times in the kitchen were undoubtedly when I had direct access to a vibrant herb garden. You very quickly realise how much money you can save by growing your own herbs. The beauty is that you can use as much or as little as you want, whenever you need it.

Buying fresh cut herbs is not only expensive, but more often than not it leads to avoidable waste. There’s a number of tricks you can employ such as freezing chopped herbs in ice-cube trays or drying them in a bouquet, but this post is about my preferred method to keep them ‘as new’ until they’re needed.

I simply wrap fresh cut herbs in kitchen towel, dampen lightly, seal in a labelled plastic food bag and pop them in the bottom of the fridge. You’ll be amazed by how long they ‘live’ for in this happy little environment.
